Her paranormal romance novella, FEARLESS, will be released on August 7th. To help promote it, she wanted to do something fun. One of her favorite parts of writing the story was creating monsters spawned from children's imaginations. Some of them are silly, but there's no rhyme or reason to a child's fears.
She'll be hosting a blogfest from August 7th to the 9th. You can post on any one of those three days. For this blogfest, all you need to do is write about your childhood monster. Did you have a beast living under your bed? Or was the scary clown in your closet?
Yes I had a recurring and utterly terrifying nightmare, which comprised of someone with a triangular paper-bag-shaped face, though I think it was like a cloth sack actually, appearing at the window at night with just two dark holes for eyes and a small, dark rectangle for a mouth.
I don't recall seeing this monster in real life, but I think it was inspired by the Cybermen from BBC's Doctor Who (and it occurs to me, scary movies about the Ku Klux Klan).
Have any of you come across this brilliant book The Monster Bed by Jeanne Willis, Susan Varley & Jeanne Varley?
Heh. I think this would scare me too!
ReplyDeleteEek! Oh that is really frightening. I'm always scared of nameless faceless/bodyless dreadful things like that.
ReplyDeleteThough the Daleks were scarier than the Cybermen, I thought. Davros, you know...
Congratulations on your release/book tour!
Oooh, that is scary! Isn't he part of LMFAO? I thought I saw him/her in a couple of their music videos?! Your monster became famous, how unfair is that! ;D
ReplyDeleteElla, not heard of LMFAO. I'm intrigued.
ReplyDeleteDeniz, LOL! I definitely thought the marching Cybermen were the scariest until the Daleks were able to levitate!
Hi Maria, yes the fear was tangible and Cybermen are still scary.
Okay, this blogfest is scaring the pants (trousers!) off of me! Wow, I'd be scared of that, too. In fact, I am right now.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that would have scared the hell out of me, too!
ReplyDeleteThat's creepy. It would be worse in the dark. And yes, I can see how this would be inspired by the Cybermen.
ReplyDeleteDid one of your brothers or other family members ever do that to you?
ReplyDeleteThat kind of reminds me of the mask used in Batman Begins. It is very scary.
ReplyDeleteYep, Cybermen would do it for me too! Thanks for sharing your monster and for helping to promote my novella.
ReplyDeleteFreaky!
ReplyDeleteI think I'd still jump if someone actually did that.
Yikes!! That is scary!!! Take care

That thing probably looked even eerier in the dark!
ReplyDeleteOh that gives me the chills! I was blessed not to have any nightmares that I can remember as a child, but I also still don't dream much :(
ReplyDeleteThat sounds creepy!
ReplyDeleteYep, that's creepy! The face is scarier than a clown face... well, it would be if it was outside my window.
ReplyDeleteEww! That's so creepy. I think I am finding out I am a big chicken today. Because I'm afraid of everything everyone has posted so far!
ReplyDeleteThis blogfest has to be the creepiest one out there, but I'm glad to participate.
ReplyDeleteThis is a unique monster. I haven't seen anything like it.
I agree. That's pretty terrifying!
ReplyDeleteOh, SUPER creepy! That would freak me out even now as a grown-up, haha. I seem to recall a movie with some kind of sack-cloth-faced monster (not the psychiatrist in Batman, another one, maybe Spanish), but for sure it was after your and my childhood (I suspect we may be the same generation). Excellent post, especially because your "monster" didn't come from an external source but rather was a unique product of your imagination. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYikes! That is scary.
ReplyDeleteThis is a new one! I am not a fan of darkened windows exactly because you never know what is watching you from out there. That book looks cute, but I've never read it.
