Well, life here has been disrupted by the fitting of a new downstairs WC. Told it would be a 2 day job it's now rolling into its 4th week...
Not much writing has been happening I'm afraid, as sharing a small study with hubby is not conducive to concentrating on blog posts and creative writing. Still no sign of my published piece in Writing magazine yet, unless I missed it. The thuthpenth!
Does anyone have an April 2012 issue of Writing magazine?
However, I read the sequel to Joanne Harris' Chocolat called The Lollipop Shoes, which I found immensely enjoyable (on the whole) though I couldn't get my head around the idea that while Chocolat seemed to be set in the late 1950's, the sequel was set in modern day with mobile phones and Internet.
Have you read it? What did you think?
Have you read it? What did you think?
As always, while reading about confectionery, I craved some decent chocolate, but the weather was gale force winds up to 70mph and hammering rain, so venturing out wasn't an option. In the end I ate one of hubby's toffees and broke a tooth! Then I recalled being warned not to eat toffees for that very reason. Now I need a crown...
I would like to thank all those who took part in my Giving Voice Blogfest.
I enjoyed reading the varied entries, with their imaginative and thought-provoking scenarios. Congratulations to one and all.

I have decided to extend my blog sabbatical for a couple of months
and hope that you, my lovely supporters, remain as followers, while I'm taking a break, though I'll be visiting you all when I get a spare moment here and there.
Thank you.
I well remember the time I had my bathroom changed to a shower room - I ended up having three loos delivered/fitted, before a fourth one was as it should have been from the beginning. You're lucky yours has only gone on for four weeks! I stopped counting...Hehehe! enjoy your time away from Blogland. ♥
ReplyDeleteSorry about your tooth - I once pressed the last toffee in the bag on my partner, because I feared for my teeth, and he promptly snapped a molar on it :-)
ReplyDeleteHope the 'quick' job on your house gets finished soon! Happy writing :-)
Ack, breaking teeth is so horrible. I hope you're not in too much pain!
ReplyDeleteBless you Karla, Penny and Kyra.
ReplyDeleteI have no pain, as it was a root canal tooth, though it feels like a landslide without a retaining wall, because of all the filling that is now exposed!
What trials! You're a trouper. I've often put taffy or toffee in my mouth only to remember...YOU BROKE A TOOTH DOING THIS! Then I have to do some major sucking to dissolve it because by then it's embedded deep into my teeth.
ReplyDeleteOH isn't that always? "They" say the toilet/kitchen/etc will take a couple of hours only to mean a couple of months! :-( Hope it's not too disruptive!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your break! Hope the weather settles! All the best with your writing!! Take care
x
Chocolat is one of my favorite movies! I read the book, too, and liked it a lot but I enjoyed the movie more (that almost never happens!). I'll definitely have to check out The Lollipop Shoes. Love that title!
ReplyDeleteHave a happy blog sabbatical, Madeleine!
Madeleine, I subscribe to Writing Magazine and haven't seen your piece in April's issue. Is it definitely in April's? What's the title, in case I've overlooked it?
ReplyDeleteHi Debbie
ReplyDeleteMy piece was the 250 words opening for a story about a character called Ray to appear under the 'Win a book and red editing pen' section (Feb 2012 issue was where I saw the challenge to enter by April 4th) Phew! Glad I've not missed it yet.
Laura, Old Kitty & Em bless you for your lovely/ entertaining comments.
ReplyDeleteEm, I so wished I'd sucked the toffee off my tooth too!
Oh and Penny, our glitch was because builders and plumbers did not liaise...
I'm sorry to hear about your tooth.
ReplyDeleteI've never read Chocolat or The Lollipop Shoes, but they sound like interesting books. Odd about the time discrepancy, though.
Hope you have a wonderful blog break! :)
I don't have the april 2012 issue but that's cool you're in it. I hope you have a more productive writing time and a fancy new WC soon.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you've had a bit of bad luck lately. Enjoy your break! I hope you're able to get some peace and quiet again and the crown for your tooth!
ReplyDeleteAre you having fun though? Despite breaking a tooth and being disappointed by a reading . .
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have a second bathroom in my house, but Ii cana't stand for my kids and hubby to be in my space when I'm writing :)
Have some fun Maddy.
........dhole
Crowns are no fun! I ended up with two from one stupid kernel of popcorn.
ReplyDeleteDon't you hate how those jobs seem to drag on forever? So annoying! Sounds like you've been getting on with things, though!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your sabbatical. Sometimes we need to get away.
ReplyDeleteHi Madeleine .. good luck with ongoing plumbing problems, I loved the film Chocolat -'fraid the book is still sitting here .. and the lollipop has put me off!
ReplyDeleteLife has its rollercoaster rides - look after yourself on the downs and relish those ups once they return ..
Cheers Hilary
I'm sorry about your tooth. Sometimes I chip a tooth and I feel regretful and surprised.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Harris, but it does sound odd that the sequel is in more modern times.
Eek..four weeks for a two day job. I've experienced that myself. I hope it's over soon.
Ouch on the tooth. Hope you survive the remodeling.
ReplyDeleteMissed ya :)
wow 2days now 4 weeks. Yikes!!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise Chocolat had a sequel. I loved the first book, but I think I prefered the movie's ending to the book's ending. I'll have to put the Lollipop Shoes on my TBR list because I love Joanne Harris' writing style.
Hey Madeleine,
ReplyDeleteYes it's me, your starstruck fan! :) I know you have been patiently waiting for me to comment and thus, dear lady, your wait is over.
The main thing is that during your blogging sabbatical, you embrace all the positive resources that are near and dear to your heart.
Take very good care of YOU.
In kindness and happy writing, your way, Gary :)
So sorry for your WC troubles! :( Hope they finish up soon!
ReplyDeleteWow. Looks like everything's going against you.
ReplyDeleteI'll definitely come by when you're back. :-)
