Nifty Fifty

Today is the Nifty 50 Blogfest hosted by Anstice Potts at Impossible Dreams, in celebration of reaching 50 followers.
The brief is to write a poem, a short scene, anecdote or even a list of your top 50 favourite things; the choice is yours! Whatever you choose, it has to involve the number 50 in some significant way'.

Here's mine:

Shifty Fifty by Madeleine Maddocks

It's not long now
Just a couple of years
Before I reach those Birthday
Blues
Fears.

What age you ask?
You hardly know
I'm heading towards my Big
Five
O.

You hold my gaze
My eyes are shifty
"It's half a century,
Okay,
Fifty!"

  2. Nice rhyme scheme! =]
On a related note, have you submitted any of your haiku to Daily Haiku before? I sent them a batch yesterday; we shall see... They don't pay for submissions, but it looks like a cool venue.

  5. Since I just turn 60 I'm ahead of you and you'll never catch up to me. But really 50, 60--it's no big deal. I don't mentally feel much different than 30 or 40--maybe physically, but turning 50 wasn't traumatic in any way for me. It does sound kind of ominous when you consider "half a century", doesn't it.

  7. Aha! :) I remember 50 which apparently is the new 40 and so on. So thus I ask, what does that make a 10 year old?
    Brilliant poem, Madeleine :)
    Have a most peaceful weekend.
    In kindness, Gary.

  8. man, I wish I were poetic, even just a bit. Rhymning evades me. I;m horrible at it. If I write a poem, no way does it rhyme. It is what it is.

    Very cute poem. Well done.
