This week's theme:
Preparation
Preparation time
Whatever I need is there
All laid out neatly.
I take a deep breath
Prepare myself for the worst
There's no going back.
Sleeping bags and tent
Provisions all in rucksack
Stout walking boots on.

RULES: Write a 200ish word flash fiction entry about something to do with SPD(real, fantasy, whatever makes your pig squeal). OR, you could also write about a memory you haveof a past SPD. In the end, we aren't being picky. Just make it goooood and make it about St. Patricks Day! (Leprechauns, luck, gold, green, clovers, beer, celebrations, etc. Funny, touching, horrifying, dark, fast-paced, romantic, etc.)
I may be cheating by sending you all to an older post, but it seemed to fit the brief although it's not flash fiction.
I was inspired to write this influenced by traditional nursery rhymes, which are decidedly unsentimental.
Fun work, made me smile.
ReplyDeleteYour second haiku was my favorite. I'm ready to jump.
ReplyDeletePigs in Clover was very rhythmic and smooth and fun.
ha. oink oink...fun read and i could easily catch the nursery rhyme rhythm...and the haiku...sounds like camping and exploring which is definitely right up my alley...happy one shot!
ReplyDeleteOh how fun is this... can hear him squeaking as he runs the field.
ReplyDeletefun to read
ReplyDeleteAwe so neat!! Love the haikus!
ReplyDeleteyour pig in clover made me think of when my uncle used to have pigs....and in the end we ate them...sad destiny...
ReplyDeletebut yours was really funny :=)
I love both the haikus and the one shot. Poor pig!

That was awesome. We used to raise pigs. I didn't eat pork for YEARS.
ReplyDeleteMy idea of roughing it is a hotel without room service!!
ReplyDeleteFun One Shot, Madeleine! Perfect for a rainy day!
ReplyDeletePoor Aloysius....nonetheless, I am not a vegetarian. :-)
ReplyDeleteWe used to raise steers for beef on my parents' farm when I was a child, and dad used to call one of them Scallopini. Apparently so we'd remember our 'pet's' ultimate fate and not get too attached...
by the sound of your Haiku your all ready to go... wish I was LOL!
ReplyDeleteDear Madeleine
ReplyDeleteVery sweet and simple with lots of imagery thrown in... liked these lines very much...

Prepare myself for the worst
There's no going back."

Love the pig poem! I agree with you about the style of old nursery rhymes, and the limerick style is fitting for the St.P day entry!
ReplyDeleteAh, poor piggy!
ReplyDeleteThis is giving me Charlotte's Web flashbacks!! But, very well done! Happy St. Patty's Day to you ~ :)
ReplyDeleteThis is being printed out and pinned onto my wall - fab :)
ReplyDeleteI actually stopped eating meat at 13 after watching a pig get slaughtered! I couldn't get the squealing out of my head for months as it bled out. That was all it took. Not eating another living thing! But this poem - might not be for vegetarians, but it sure was cute! My dad would LOVE it and this veggie girl enjoyed it! GREAT entry!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great poem! Nicely done!
