Lost in the serenity of the sea, Mary Lou watched the scudding clouds beyond the distant hills and forgot all the troubles in her world. (137 characters with spaces)
HAIKU:
Ripples in the breeze,
Wide open expanse of sea,
Tranquility reigns.
Micro Fiction is provocative fiction that requires tight analysis and editing. Taking an idea and distilling it into a microcosm of its original self is the challenge. The form is strictly prose. I regard it as the prose equivalent of a Haiku in poetry, (traditionally 5, 7, 5 syllables)
For me it provides some great editing practice.
Hi Madeleine.. I find Haiku a bit difficult to write so you can just imagine how I would find Micro Fiction. But it must be good for editing practice.
ReplyDeleteBtw..thanks for the wonderful Blog fest contest. I had a hard time sticking to that deadline. But I managed.
Lovely, both of them, well done! :o)
ReplyDeleteThank you Rachna. I couldn't do Haiku until one night my hubby and I sat down and tried a few silly ones together, then it just seemed to click and I really enjoy them now. Maybe you need a Haiku buddy. Really glad you joined the Novel blogfest.
ReplyDeleteDeborah Thank you :O)
There is something about an expanse of water and sailing boats that eases inner stress and pain! lovely little micro and enjoyed the haiku too!
ReplyDeleteTo get the most from the least, eh? Make words sing for their supper, says I...
ReplyDeleteIt's good to lose oneself in beauty - very therapeutic!
ReplyDeleteVery Nice Madeleine, the sea is a great place to sit and think. When I lived on the East Coast, I loved going to visit my Aunt. Her home was on the Shore, it was a great place to go sit on a rock and get lost in your thoughts. I loved this.,
ReplyDeleteI love the way you've captured the healing power of the sea, and I especially like this, "scudding clouds." Beautifully written.
ReplyDeleteHmm, to forget all the troubles in the world... wouldn't that be lovely ;-)
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping Mary Lou's scudding clouds don't end up in her coffee, because, hey, she'll be right back where she started from! LOL!
ReplyDeleteGreat take! I enjoyed this fun visit!

Wow, I never thought of it like that before... So what you're saying is, after microfictioning I should be really tired! LOL!
Nature does that for me too. Thanks for the reminder. I really like the haiku. Very evocative!
ReplyDeleteLovely MM! well done...
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your Haiku!

ReplyDeleteTranquility does rein out at Lime Kiln State Park. Not even the tourists can break the magic spell.
ReplyDeleteAh the sound of the sea calms the soul. :)
ReplyDeleteNice microfiction, it goes perfectly with the picture. :)
I agree; microfiction is a great writing exercise
ReplyDeleteHey guys thank you.

ReplyDeleteWow, you have a gift for packing lots of punch with very few words. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI love the haiku!
ReplyDeletelove looking at the sea too
ReplyDeleteI like the way you think! I have always been drawn to the water--luckily I happen to live close to the Atlantic Ocean, so am able to satisfy my thirst for its solitude. Have a great week. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteThe pleasant, peaceful words make the photo look pleasant and peaceful. Each person's story makes me view the photo differently.
ReplyDeleteI like yours.
I enjoyed both your MM and your haiku.
