  7. Madeleine, I find the best way to warm up my brain for writing is to read. Sometimes it's a story or a chapter of a novel that I already know well and love. And sometimes it's something new. But whatever it is, I always feel inspired. Sometimes I carry on reading even after I feel ready to begin writing, so that once I do start, I'm raring to go like a dog that's seen a rabbit.
I once had success with a story that came to me after reading one short poem. I used its title within the story and often re-read that poem. It still inspires me now. xx
